Fresh political tension has emerged within the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the Obidient Movement in Enugu State following allegations of an alleged plot to infiltrate and destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement addressed to the leadership of the NDC and the Obidient Movement in Enugu State, a concerned party member, Barr. Ezika Daniel O., warned of what he described as a coordinated attempt by political interests linked to the ruling structure to weaken the opposition from within.
The statement, titled “Urgent Warning on Planned Political Infiltration and Sabotage Within NDC Enugu State,” alleged that certain individuals loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress were being strategically planted within the NDC to manipulate internal processes and frustrate the emergence of credible candidates.
“I write with deep concern and a strong sense of responsibility regarding the growing political dangers confronting our great party, the NDC, in Enugu State,” the statement read.
Barr. Ezika urged party leaders “not to dismiss this warning, but to verify these concerns independently and urgently.”
He specifically referenced the political situation in the Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, alleging that Charles Chuka Ndukwe, said to be a close political associate of APC House of Representatives candidate, Festus Uzor, had recently emerged within the NDC political structure under questionable circumstances.
According to the statement, Ndukwe was “widely known as a frontline member and promoter of the ‘Tinubu Renewed Hope’ political structure and movement,” adding that as of May 5, 2026, he was still allegedly pursuing political ambitions under the APC platform.
“Following the emergence of Dr. F.S.A. Uzor as the APC candidate for the Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, there are now strong indications of coordinated political arrangements aimed at moving Charles Ndukwe into the NDC in order to occupy the political space, weaken internal party structures, frustrate genuine aspirants, and ultimately deny the NDC the opportunity of presenting a formidable candidate capable of defeating the APC in the general election,” he alleged.
The concerned Obidient member further warned that the NDC must be cautious about what he described as a sudden influx of defectors from rival political parties.
“While the NDC remains open, inclusive, and democratic, we must not allow our openness to become a weapon against us,” the statement said.
“Many of these sudden defectors may not share the vision, ideology, and aspirations of our movement, but may instead be operating as political agents planted to destabilise the party from within.”
Barr. Ezika also cautioned that failure to urgently address the development could weaken the party’s electoral chances in Enugu State.
“If urgent attention is not given to this matter, the party risks handing victory to its opponents through internal sabotage rather than electoral defeat,” he stated.
He subsequently called on the leadership of the NDC, national stakeholders, and members of the Obidient Movement to thoroughly scrutinise new entrants seeking to participate in sensitive political contests and protect the integrity of the party’s primaries.
“The future, credibility, and electoral strength of the NDC in Enugu State depend greatly on the decisions we make today,” the statement added.
