The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Kogi State has approved eight professorial and 17 Reader promotions.
The decision was contained in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, issued to newsmen on Monday.
According to Omale, the approvals were reached during the council’s 72nd regular meeting held on Friday at the University Council Chamber and chaired by Prof. Mohammed Suleiman Audu.
“The development reinforces the institution’s commitment to scholarship, research productivity and institutional growth,” he said.
He added that the council approved the promotions after reviewing recommendations from the Appointments and Promotion Committee.
The new professors include Dr. Okpe Alfa, Animal Production, and Dr. Onimisi Mero, Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Others are Dr. Okpanachi Abdubala, Animal and Environmental Biology, and Dr. Friday Sale, Pure and Industrial Chemistry.
Also promoted were Dr. Saad Murtala, Arabic and Islamic Studies, and Dr. Okpanachi Anthony, Philosophy.
Dr. Sani Idris Ahmed, Economics, and Dr, Hassan Achimugu, Public Administration, also attained professorial rank.
Seventeen lecturers were promoted to Reader, equivalent to Associate Professor.
They include Dr. Attaugwu Roseline, Food, Nutrition and Home Science, and Dr. Amana Unekwu, Animal and Environmental Biology.
Others are Dr. Ameh Mark and Dr. Larayetan Abisoye, both from Pure and Industrial Chemistry.
Also promoted were Dr. Afere Eniola, Mathematical Sciences, and Dr. Abraham Joseph, Microbiology.
Dr. Yusuf Shrifudeen, Arabic and Islamic Studies, and Dr. Obera Joy, Arts Education-English Language, were also elevated.
The list also includes Dr. Muraina Olanrewaju, Educational Foundations, and Dr. Emmanuel Friday Titus, Medicinal Chemistry.
Dr. Agbana Funmilayo, Mass Communication, was also promoted to Reader.
Others are Dr. Aliu Monday and Dr. Usman Muhammed, both from Political Science.
Dr. Okeme Patrick, Public Administration, and Dr. Shaibu Joshua, Social Science Education, also received promotions.
Dr. Atoyebi Abayomi, Sociology, and Dr. Ugwu James, Accounting, completed the list.
“The promotions reflect PAAU’s policy of rewarding hard work, strengthening research output and sustaining academic standards,” the PRO stated.
He said the council reaffirmed support for policies promoting scholarship, staff development, institutional stability, and global academic visibility.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Usman, congratulated the promoted staff for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to teaching, research, and community service.
Usman urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through impactful research, high academic standards, and mentorship of younger academics.
The vice-chancellor also reaffirmed management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for academic growth and professional advancement.
