A parent at Utumishi Girls Academy disrupted an assembly held at the school while Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat was addressing students, teachers, and parents.

A fire broke out in one of the school’s dormitories on May 28 at around 2am, leaving parents and the nation in shock.
Following the tragedy, 16 students were confirmed dead, while scores were injured and seven were hospitalised.

Seemingly having waited for a long time to receive an update on his daughter’s safety, the man could not contain his anxiety.

He screamed and wailed, asking to see the young girl, momentarily causing a scene. He fell to the ground, banging his hands as family members tried to restrain him.
“No way, no, no, no, I want to see my daughter. No, show me my daughter. What are you telling us?” he screamed.
Police officers present also tried to calm him down, but he could not control his worry and pain.
Still visibly distressed, he got up and paced around, trying to get closer to where the DIG was speaking.
“Baba Sheryl, please don’t hurt yourself, just let him be please,” a voice was heard in the background.
Following the heartbreaking incident, the school was closed to allow for investigations. Education CS Julius Ogamba also affirmed that those responsible for the fire will be held accountable.
