A fresh tragedy has emerged following the deadly fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, after a parent died in a grisly road accident while rushing to check on her child.

The news of the mother’s death was announced by Murindat Ward MCA PM Njoroge, who said that Gladys Chebet and her husband were travelling from Nakuru to the school late at night after news of the devastating dormitory fire broke out.
The couple was reportedly desperate to confirm the safety of their daughter, who is a student at the institution.
However, tragedy struck near the Diatomite area along the Nakuru-Gilgil highway when the couple was involved in a horrific road accident shortly after midnight.
Gladys Chebet sadly died on the spot, while her husband sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The MCA revealed that the couple’s daughter survived the school fire and is physically unharmed, but the heartbreaking loss of her mother has left her emotionally devastated.

The incident has added another painful layer to the tragedy surrounding the Utumishi Girls Academy fire, which has already plunged many families into mourning and anxiety.
Speaking to Paxson TV, another parent also narrated how the parent died in the accident.
He said the parents had arrived at school and were informed that their daughter was in the hospital. It was while they were en route to the hospital that the fatal accident happened at Diatomite.
Leaders and Kenyans on social media have continued to send messages of condolence to the bereaved family while calling for support for the affected students and parents.
“Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the MCA said in the statement.
Investigations into both the fatal school fire and the road accident are expected to continue as families seek answers and healing after the twin tragedies.
