After 16 years of Viktor Orbán dominating Hungarian politics, the internet has found an unlikely symbol of the country’s political reset: a dancing doctor.

A video of Hungary’s incoming health minister, Zsolt Hegedűs, who is also an orthopaedic surgeon, breaking into an energetic dance outside the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest is going viral online.

The celebrations came moments after Péter Magyar was officially sworn in as Hungary’s new prime minister.
In the clip, Hegedűs can be seen smiling, waving and dancing in front of cheering supporters outside the iconic parliament building, as crowds celebrated what many are calling one of Hungary’s biggest political shake-ups in decades.

Social media users quickly turned the moment into memes, edits and reaction videos, with many describing the scene as a rare celebratory moment in European politics.

Magyar’s victory marks a dramatic shift in Hungarian politics after Orbán and his Fidesz party held power since 2010, shaping the country with a strong nationalist and conservative agenda. The election result has drawn global attention, especially within the European Union, where Orbán had long been seen as one of the bloc’s most polarising leaders.

But online, it’s Hegedűs who is currently stealing the spotlight. Users across X, TikTok and Instagram are widely sharing the clip, with memes and reaction edits continuing to flood social media.
