- Some Moniepoint customers have allegedly closed their accounts in protest following controversial remarks by CEO Tosin Eniolorunda about Nigeria’s talent standards.
- The situation has sparked heated debates online, with opinions divided over the CEO’s comments and their implications.
Some customers have reportedly cut ties with Moniepoint following recent remarks by its Chief Executive Officer, Tosin Eniolorunda, on Nigeria’s workforce and talent standards.
The controversy gained traction after a user on X (formerly Twitter), identified as @Cyzorosgatus, claimed he and two of his friends had returned their POS machines and closed their accounts with the fintech company.
“The yeye MoniePoint that just yesterday I and 2 of my friends returned their yeye machine and closed our accounts with them,” he wrote.
The post quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions across social media, with users debating both the decision of the customers and the CEO’s earlier comments.
The user also voiced frustration over reactions to the ongoing discourse, accusing some individuals of making insensitive remarks without considering their broader impact.
“Some people are just selfish; as far as they have gained theirs, they can talk nonsense, and they don’t care if others will be harmed in the process,” he added.
The backlash is tied to recent statements by Eniolorunda, who highlighted challenges in finding highly skilled professionals in Nigeria that meet global standards. While some agreed with his stance on talent gaps in the country, others criticized the tone of his comments, describing them as dismissive or insensitive.
