Residents of Esinele community in Oli Re Local Government Area of Oyo State have been thrown into panic following the alleged abduction of students and staff members of Community High School by unidentified gunmen.

Panic as gunmen kidnap students, teachers in Oyo community

The school principal, Mrs Alamu, made a distress video on Sunday, claiming that the victims had been held captive since Friday after armed men invaded the school around 9:30 a.m.

According to her, both staff and students were taken during the attack, while she appealed to the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, Christian leaders, and Nigerians to intervene urgently to prevent loss of lives.

We were attacked by a certain group of people and a good number of us were abducted — the staff and students as well. We have been here since Friday,” she said.

Principal appeals for peaceful Intervention

The visibly distressed principal specifically called on Governor Seyi Makinde, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and security agencies to ensure their safe rescue through peaceful negotiations.

They should come to our aid and settle these things peacefully so that our lives will not be lost,” Mrs Alamu pleaded in the viral clip.

The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity and attacks on schools across Nigeria.

In 2024, suspected gunmen abducted several pupils and teachers in Kuriga, Kaduna State, sparking nationwide outrage and renewed calls for improved security in schools.

Authorities are yet to officially confirm the latest incident in Oyo State as of press time.
