Wema Bank Announces Final Call for One-Day MD/CEO Contest Entries

The initiative, launched in May 2025 as part of the bank’s 80th anniversary celebration, was designed to commemorate Children’s Day by giving Nigerian children and teenagers a rare opportunity to serve as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank for one day.

Inspired by the anniversary theme, “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities,” the programme aims to inspire young Nigerians by exposing them to leadership, innovation, and the future of banking.

The maiden edition of the initiative gained nationwide attention on May 27, 2025, after 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerged winner and assumed the role of MD/CEO for the day. The programme was widely praised by parents and stakeholders for encouraging ambition, creativity, and leadership among children.

According to the bank, the 2026 edition will be bigger and more inclusive, offering another child or teenager between the ages of 0 and 16 the opportunity to step into the shoes of the bank’s Managing Director for a day.

The winner will participate in board meetings, observe executive decision-making processes, and gain firsthand experience of the responsibilities involved in leading one of Nigeria’s oldest indigenous banks and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT.

To participate, interested children and teenagers are required to record a 60-second video explaining their ideal role in banking and the impact they hope to make.

The video must be posted on any social media platform using the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities while tagging @wemabank.

According to the bank, the participant with the highest number of likes will emerge winner and serve as Wema Bank’s MD/CEO for one day on May 25, 2026, in celebration of Children’s Day.

Parents and guardians have also been encouraged to support their children and ensure submissions are completed before the May 20 deadline.
