Former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, has appealed to party members to stay calm and avoid defecting as tension continues to trail the outcome of the party’s primaries in Oyo State.
Adelabu urged APC supporters to ignore unofficial lists and reports circulating online, insisting that only the party’s national leadership in Abuja has the authority to announce the final outcome of the primary election process.
According to him, party members should remain patient and wait for the official verdict from the APC headquarters instead of acting on rumours and unverified information.
“Remain calm, patient and law-abiding while awaiting the final declaration from the party headquarters in Abuja,” Adelabu appealed.
The former minister warned that false victory claims, propaganda and political speculation could create unnecessary confusion among party faithful and worsen the already tense atmosphere within the party.
Defections Spark Fresh Concerns
Adelabu expressed worry over reports that some APC members had already started defecting to rival political parties due to alleged consensus arrangements and dissatisfaction with the primary process.
He strongly condemned the reported defections, arguing that abandoning the APC over rumours would only weaken the party and hand an advantage to opposition groups ahead of future elections.
According to him, many loyal members have invested years of effort, resources and sacrifices into building the party and should not throw that away based on speculation.
Lessons From Past Elections
The APC chieftain noted that the party’s experiences during the 2019 and 2023 elections showed the dangers of internal division and avoidable political crises.
Adelabu maintained that the APC national leadership has the experience and capacity to resolve all concerns arising from the primary exercise and ensure fairness for everyone involved.
He also expressed confidence that necessary interventions would be made to protect party unity and prevent further cracks within the APC in Oyo State.
Abuja Decision Still Expected
With uncertainty still hanging over the primaries, party members are now waiting for the APC national leadership to officially announce the final outcome.
Political observers believe the coming days could determine whether the party emerges stronger from the crisis or faces deeper internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
What do you think? Should aggrieved APC members remain and fight for their interests within the party or move to other political platforms?
