Arsenal’s sports science chief Tom Allen leaves club

Arsenal have continued their backroom restructuring with head of sports science and performance Tom Allen becoming the latest senior staff member to leave the Premier League champions.

Allen, who joined the club from Aston Villa in 2017, oversaw first-team performance across sports science, nutrition, physical conditioning and performance support.

His departure comes only weeks after Arsenal secured their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Backroom overhaul gathers pace

Allen follows head of medical Dr Zaf Iqbal and lead performance coach Sam Wilson out of the club as Arsenal continue a wide-ranging review of their medical and performance departments.

The changes come after a season in which Mikel Arteta’s side battled a series of injury setbacks, with several key first-team players spending lengthy periods on the sidelines despite the club’s successful title-winning campaign.

The overhaul is being carried out following an internal assessment of Arsenal’s medical and performance operations.

External expert plays key role

The review has involved external medical expert Joaquin Acedo, who previously worked alongside Arteta during their time at Everton.

Sources close to the process say Acedo has played a significant role in shaping the changes being implemented this summer.

Arsenal have not yet announced replacements for the departing members of the medical and performance team as preparations continue for the 2026-27 season.
