Millwall forward Femi Azeez has begun the process of obtaining a Nigerian passport as he edges closer to committing his international future to the Super Eagles.
The 24-year-old attacker, who impressed during Nigeria’s successful Unity Cup campaign, is reportedly taking the necessary steps to become eligible for competitive fixtures ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
Passport process underway
Born in London to a Nigerian father, Azeez is eligible to represent Nigeria despite also having options through England and Spain.
The winger is understood to be leaning towards the Super Eagles and has started the paperwork required to secure a Nigerian passport.
If selected and featured in a competitive fixture during the AFCON qualifying campaign, Azeez would become officially tied to Nigeria, ending any possibility of representing England or Spain at senior international level.
Unity Cup performances boost chances
Azeez enhanced his credentials during the recent Unity Cup tournament in London, where he emerged as one of Nigeria’s standout performers.
The former Reading attacker registered three goal contributions during the competition, a tally matched only by captain and striker Terem Moffi.
His performances played a key role in Nigeria’s successful title defence and strengthened his case for future involvement under Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
September qualifiers could prove decisive
Azeez was initially considered for Nigeria’s recent friendlies against Poland and Portugal following the Unity Cup.
However, the Nigeria Football Federation later confirmed that Millwall FC declined to release the player after he was not included in the original squad list.
With the AFCON qualifiers approaching, the upcoming international window could provide the first opportunity for Azeez to make a competitive appearance for Nigeria.
Should that happen, the talented attacker would officially commit his international future to the three-time African champions.
