Benson Lauds Residents as 2026 Imota Community Week Ends

Despite a heavy downpour that persisted throughout the day, residents of Imota Local Council Development Area turned out in large numbers as the Imota Community Development Committee (CDC) brought the 2026 Imota Community Week celebration to a colourful and memorable conclusion on Thursday, 25 June, 2026.

The grand finale, held at the Imota Mini Stadium, attracted community leaders, government officials, representatives of various Community Development Associations (CDAs), and other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the spirit of unity, community development, and collective progress.

This year’s celebration was themed, “The Role of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Strengthening Community Security Through Effective Leadership and Collective Responsibility.” The theme underscored the importance of community participation, responsible leadership, and collaboration among residents in promoting safety, peace, and sustainable development within their communities.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Imota CDC, Comrade Odumosu Rafiu Abiodun Ashaka, commended residents for their unwavering commitment and resilience, noting that the heavy rainfall did not dampen the enthusiasm of the people. He described the impressive turnout as a testament to the strong bond, unity, and collective determination of the Imota community to continue pursuing development and progress.

The week-long celebration, which commenced on Tuesday, 23 June, 2026 featured a series of activities aimed at promoting community engagement and social cohesion. These included a CDA Leadership Seminar and the recognition of outstanding individuals whose contributions have significantly impacted the growth and advancement of the community.

In his address, the Chairman of Imota LCDA, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, applauded the CDC and the various CDAs for their dedication to grassroots development. He urged residents, particularly eligible voters, to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement in strengthening democracy and ensuring effective representation.

Also speaking, the General Secretary of the Lagos State CDC, Alhaji Lukman Sonibare, who represented the state body, praised the Imota CDC and the various CDAs for their commitment to grassroots development. He reaffirmed the state’s support for initiatives that promote peace, unity, and sustainable development, while encouraging residents to remain actively involved in community affairs.

One of the major highlights of the grand finale was the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals whose contributions have positively impacted the socio-economic development of Imota LCDA. Among the award recipients were Comrade Odumosu Adegboyega Olaseni and DSP Gambo K. Agidi (Rtd). The colourful match-past by various CDAs further added excitement to the occasion.

As the curtains fell on the 2026 Imota Community Week celebration, participants expressed satisfaction with the success of the programme and renewed their commitment to fostering unity, peaceful coexistence, and community development across Imota LCDA.
