Canada-based Nigerian faces trial over alleged sexual assault of minor

A Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been arrested and charged by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) for the alleged sexual assault and sexual interference of a minor.

The incident occurred inside a grocery store located in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area of Toronto on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to available information, the young victim was shopping at a local grocery store alongside their parents when the suspect approached and sexually assaulted the child.

Following the attack, the suspect attempted to escape the scene on foot but was actively chased by a civilian bystander before police units arrived.

Police operatives, following a brief manhunt and a public safety alert issued to the community, successfully tracked down and arrested Oladejo on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The development was confirmed in two separate statements released on Sunday by the Toronto Police Service.

“On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Idris Olajide Oladejo, 35, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

“He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:30 am, in room 102.

“A sexual assault is any form of unwanted sexual contact. It includes, but is not limited to, kissing, grabbing, oral sex and penetration,” the police stated.

The police also noted that under Canadian law, sexual assault refers to any form of unwanted sexual contact and includes, but is not limited to, kissing, grabbing, oral sex and penetration.
