“No One Should Feel Trapped”- Bovi Explains Why Marriage Should Come With An Expiration Date

Nigerian comedian Bovi has sparked conversations online after sharing his views on what could improve the quality and honesty of marriages.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Dear Ife Series podcast, the entertainer proposed an unconventional idea: marriages should have a five-year validity period, allowing couples to decide at the end of that term whether to continue together or part ways.

According to Bovi, such a system could motivate spouses to remain intentional about their relationships rather than becoming too comfortable or taking each other for granted over time.

Addressing the realities of modern relationships, the comedian maintained that individuals should not feel obligated to remain in unions that no longer bring them happiness or fulfillment.

He further stated that if, after five years, a husband no longer feels satisfied in the marriage, he should have the freedom to walk away without facing unnecessary difficulties

He stated:

“Every marriage should have a five-year expiry date. If the man isn’t happy, he should be free to leave. When there’s just one year left on the contract, you’ll see a lot of women adjusting their character.”

@officialJoyO:”The deception in this statement is appalling. Everybody is not the same. If you want contract state it from the get go, don’t act forever love and come back in 2years for contractual agreement for 3years. That’s deceptive and evil. Everybody just say trash online.”

@Rtee__73:”Once they put the cheat and loose half your property clause, both parties will definitely adjust their characters… besides why get married though?”

@Nigeriangod_:”This is the most myopic saying cos marriage is made of two individuals that came together to become one, he’s making it like marriage is about the man alone and only men deserve happiness in it, the woman’s happiness is also important and if she can’t get she can leave.”

@badnis178092:”The funniest part is men always imagine women are the only ones who’d start acting different when the clock is ticking Some of the biggest performers you’ll ever meet are men trying not to lose access to comfort.”
