The wife of renowned cleric and political figure, James Omolaja Odunmbaku, popularly known as “Baba Eto,” Mother Celestial Olasinmi Akindele Odunmbaku, is dead, reports thegazellenews.com
Her passing was announced in a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, Kayode Ajala, who disclosed that the respected church leader, politician and businesswoman died at the age of 59.
The statement said the family received the news of her demise with heavy hearts but in total submission to the will of Almighty God.
“With heavy hearts but in total submission to the will of Almighty God, we announce the demise of Mother Celestial Olasinmi Akindele Odunmbaku,” the statement read.
Until her death, the late Olasinmi Odunmbaku was the devoted wife of Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, Shepherd-in-Charge of the Celestial Church of Christ, City of God Cathedral, and Convener of the Soulwinners Ambassadors International Ministry.
Widely known in political circles by the sobriquet “Bulldozer,” she was regarded as a formidable grassroots mobiliser whose influence cut across political, religious and social spheres.
She also served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, where she was recognised for her advocacy on issues affecting women and vulnerable groups.
A passionate worshipper and pillar of the Celestial Church of Christ, City of God Cathedral, the late Odunmbaku remained actively involved in church activities and was widely respected within the Christian community.
Beyond public service and religious commitments, she was a successful businesswoman whose contributions earned her admiration among associates and community leaders.
Born into the family of the late Professor M. Olabode of the Akoko area of Ondo State, she had a distinguished educational background that reflected her passion for learning and service.
She attended Mary Hill Convent School and later Queen’s School, Ibadan, before proceeding to the University of East London, where she studied Business and Finance with a specialisation in Accounting.
The deceased was also recognised for her unwavering support for women’s inclusion in governance and was among advocates who championed the implementation of the 35 per cent affirmative action policy for women in Nigeria’s political and governance structures.
Friends, political associates, church members and admirers have continued to pay tribute to her, describing her as a compassionate leader, committed Christian and dedicated public servant whose impact transcended politics and religion.
While mourning her passage, the family said details of her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
The statement added that her legacy of service, faith, grassroots mobilisation and advocacy for women would remain a lasting reference point for generations to come.
