The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration and supervising DIG, North West Geopolitical zone, Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, has commenced an operational and security assessment visit to Kebbi State on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with the launch of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU).
As part of the visit, the DIG conducted a security assessment tour of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) in Gwandu.
There, he engaged the school management, staff, and students on security dialogue.
Abdul reiterated the Police Force’s commitment to prioritising safety in schools, emphasising collaboration between security agencies and educational institutions.
He also encouraged students to remain focused on academic excellence and discipline, noting that education remains a critical foundation for national development.
The DIG, during the operational assessment tour, also witnessed the passing out parade of 436 retrained Police Constables who underwent tactical training in musketry and other operational skills aimed at enhancing their capacity in crime prevention and response.
He further officially launched the VCRU of the Kebbi State Police Command, equipped with six operational vehicles and five motorcycles, to strengthen rapid response, intelligence-led policing, and effective tackling of violent crimes across the State.
In continuation of his visit, the DIG held an interactive session with officers and men of the Command, where he emphasised professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of citizens.
Abdul highlighted the Police Force’s Handshake Policy, which promotes interstate coordination, intelligence sharing, and strengthened collaboration among security formations towards effectively combating crimes and criminality across state boundaries.
He also charged officers to embrace Artificial Intelligence and digital innovations in modern policing, noting that technology remains a critical tool in improving crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and the fight against crimes and criminality.
The Kebbi State Police Command, under CP Umar M. Hadejia, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community-based security partnerships and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents.
