Drama in Ibadan as FRSC Intercepts Suspected One Chance Robbers, Hands Them Over to Police

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested suspected members of a phone theft gang and a “one chance” robbery syndicate during an operation in Ibadan, Oyo State, recovering a stolen mobile phone in the process.

The incident reportedly occurred during a routine patrol along the Babalegba–Eleyele–Ojoo axis when FRSC operatives observed a suspicious situation involving a motorcycle rider pursuing a Nissan Micra vehicle. The officers promptly intercepted the vehicle after detecting unusual movements.

A female passenger inside the vehicle raised an alarm, alleging that her mobile phone had been stolen while she was inside the car. The FRSC operatives immediately initiated a search and questioning of the occupants.

During preliminary interrogation, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Idowu Mukaila, reportedly claimed he could assist in retrieving the missing phone. Shortly after, another individual appeared at the scene and produced the stolen device, raising further suspicion of coordinated criminal activity linked to a “one chance” syndicate.

Following the development, the suspects were taken into custody and later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Eleyele Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The FRSC also noted that prior intelligence from local transport authorities and union officials had indicated that the suspects and the vehicle were already under surveillance for alleged involvement in phone theft and related criminal operations within the area.

Authorities described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and support broader security operations through collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to continue investigations to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and identify other possible members of the network.
