The White House has responded to Vice President JD Vance’s grilling on The View by trying to turn it into a meme.
Vance appeared on the long-running talk show for the first time on Tuesday, to promote his new book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.
During the show he was questioned by the panelists on a range of subjects, from the administration’s immigration crackdown and President Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein to the economy and faith.
At one point, co-host Ana Navarro asked Vance about the alleged “subhuman” conditions experienced by people in immigrant detention centers.
“I would urge you, as a Christian, and as a father, to visit those detention centers where the children are being held, and make sure that the conditions live up to the values that we hold in this country,” Navarro said.
Towards the end of the conversation Navarro sarcastically told Vance that the Trump administration had “done a great job closing the border.”
Vance replied: “I appreciate that. We’re going to get you back, Ana.”
The official White House account later shared an image of Vance laughing while co-host Navarro folded her arms and gave him a sideways glance.
“When she says she doesn’t Trust in Trump,” the post’s caption read.
Navarro has criticised Trump for his rhetoric surrounding immigration. While previously describing herself as a Republican she said she voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and voiced support for Democratic candidates in the two presidential elections that followed.
The White House also shared a clip from Vance’s appearance, claiming he “DEMOLISHED” the show.
“You think that our immigration policies are ‘inhumane’ based on the reporting of one person with a political bias,” Vance said in the clip.
“What I’m telling you is that it’s inhumane to allow cartels to sex traffic people across our border,” he added.
Earlier in the video, Vance acknowledged how he too was once a critic of Trump.
“What changed?” comedian Joy Behar interjected.
Vance fired back: “Well, Joy, a little humility, actually.”
