Plateau State, Nigeria — Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a dismissed police inspector suspected of being a key player in an interstate arms trafficking network, in a major intelligence-led operation conducted in Plateau State.
The operation, carried out on Sunday, June 14, 2026, followed credible intelligence on the movement of illegal weapons across state lines. Acting on the information, troops of Sector 6 in collaboration with Headquarters of Operation ENDURING PEACE mounted surveillance along key routes before intercepting the suspect at a military checkpoint in the Makera axis of Riyom Local Government Area.

Security personnel reportedly stopped a white Peugeot vehicle travelling from Jos South, where a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of arms and other incriminating items.
Recovered items include two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, and a jack knife. Additional items found in his possession were two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police identification tag, photographs of the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and ₦73,300 in cash.

Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, a dismissed officer of the Nigeria Police Force, formerly attached to Base 7, Abuja.
Military sources disclosed that despite his dismissal from service, the suspect allegedly remained active within an interstate arms trafficking syndicate suspected of supplying weapons to criminal groups involved in terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry across parts of the country.
Authorities say the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation aimed at dismantling the wider network, including identifying his collaborators, financiers, and supply chains.
