Family of missing 4-year-old Nakuru girl says suspect's wife confessed to chief: " alitaka kuitisha KSh 200k

A family in Pipeline Estate, Nakuru County, is devastated and appealing for help to find their four-year-old daughter, Mary Njeri Ng’ang’a.

Mary was reported missing on June 11 after she disappeared while playing outside their gate.

Her family reported the matter to Mwariki Police Station, but she is yet to be found, leaving her loved ones in deep anguish.

As search efforts continued, a suspect allegedly contacted the family and demanded a ransom.

Following the development, detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit, working alongside intelligence officers and local police, tracked the suspect to the Quarry area in Rongai.

However, he reportedly managed to flee into nearby informal settlements after noticing officers closing in on him. Police have since launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the suspect in the hope of finding the missing girl.

Mary Njeri’s family storms police tation

With days passing and the suspect still at large, Mary’s family and angry residents, led by the child’s grandmother, stormed Mwariki Police Station demanding answers.

They screamed, wailed and protested outside the police station, leaving both officers and onlookers stunned.

“It’s been four days and we have not found the little girl. If someone steals cows or chickens, they are quickly arrested, but when someone kidnaps a child, they are allowed to escape. We want that child home. Bring Mary Njeri home,” said one of the protesters.

Speaking to the press, Mary’s grandmother, Mary Njeri, after whom the child was named, recounted the events leading up to her granddaughter’s disappearance.

She recalled receiving a call from her daughter-in-law informing her that the child was missing.

“I boarded a motorbike and went straight there. I thank the neighbours and boda boda riders who helped us in the search and acted swiftly, even though we did not find her,” she said.

The family claimed that a man who had recently moved into the neighbourhood was seen around the area at the time Mary disappeared.

The grandmother said they confronted the man’s wife, who claimed she did not know where her husband was, prompting police intervention.

“A boda boda rider recalled seeing the woman and her husband trying to board his motorbike with the child, but they disagreed over the fare,” said the grandmother.

Did the Suspect’s wife confess?

As tensions escalated, the woman was reportedly summoned by the area chief, where she allegedly admitted knowing about the kidnapping plot.

According to the family, she claimed that her husband had previously spoken about kidnapping a child in the area and demanding a ransom of KSh 200,000 so they could improve their lives.

She allegedly told those present that she had discouraged him from pursuing such thoughts, warning that it would only lead to trouble.

“We searched her bag and found some medicine. We also recorded her confession. She claimed she was in church at the time Mary went missing, but we believe that is not true,” said Mary’s grandmother.

The devastated grandmother questioned how a suspect could manage to escape despite being pursued by armed police officers.

As the search for Mary continues, her family remains hopeful that she will be found safe and reunited with her loved ones.
