The founder of Letusworship Healing and Salvation Ministries, Prophet (Apostle) Ayoola Oladele, has recounted how he narrowly escaped death after accidentally ingesting rat poison instead of headache medication before a church programme.
Speaking in a telephone interview with media personality Oluwaseun Fabiyi, the retired military officer, who hails from Eruku in Kwara State, attributed his survival to God’s mercy, saying he was kept alive by divine intervention rather than his own strength.
According to the cleric, the incident occurred on Friday, June 19, 2026, shortly before he was due to minister during a church programme.

He said he developed a mild headache while preparing to preach and asked one of his spiritual sons to get him a sachet of headache medication from the house.
The aide, however, mistakenly picked up a sachet containing rat poison instead of the intended medicine. Unaware of the mix-up and distracted by the discomfort from the headache, Apostle Ayoola said he asked the young man to open the sachet and handed it to him.
Apostle Ayoola said he immediately swallowed the contents with water, believing it was medication. Moments later, he noticed an unusual taste and smell and requested the sachet from his assistant, only to discover that he had mistakenly consumed rat poison.
The cleric said he initially attempted to remain calm despite developing severe stomach pain as the time for him to mount the pulpit drew closer.
“I knew something was wrong, but I did not want to create panic among the congregation,” he said.
He explained that while seated, he silently prayed and reflected on Bible passages, including Mark 16:17-18, Psalm 91 and Psalm 27, while those around him searched for a nearby hospital.
According to Apostle Ayoola, he also took anointing oil, holy water, red oil and milk before deciding to seek urgent medical attention.
He said they eventually located Longe Hospital along Iju-Ishaga/Agbado Road in Lagos in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, where medical personnel immediately commenced treatment.
At the hospital, Apostle Ayoola’s blood pressure was reportedly recorded at 157/91. He said doctors administered emergency treatment, including injections and medication to neutralise the poison and minimise possible damage to his internal organs.
Apostle Ayoola said that after receiving treatment, he returned to the church and went ahead to minister at the programme, which lasted for about three hours and ended around 5:11 a.m.
He added that he subsequently proceeded to his church headquarters along the Oshodi area of Lagos, where he continued treatment and observation.
The cleric said he later experienced repeated vomiting and diarrhoea, which, according to him, helped expel most of the poison from his system before he gradually recovered.
He also disclosed that news of the incident quickly spread, prompting an outpouring of prayers, phone calls and messages from family members, church members and well-wishers across the country.
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, Apostle Ayoola posted a brief message confirming his recovery.
“I am alive,” he wrote, while thanking God for preserving his life.
Expressing gratitude, the cleric said he believes his survival was an act of divine mercy.
“Heavenly Father, I remain grateful for the gift of life. I acknowledge that Your reasons for sparing me are beyond my understanding, but I thank You for Your mercy, forgiveness and protection,” he said.
