A nursing mother has sparked debate on social media after alleging that her husband refused to provide money for food following a disagreement over a ₦2,000 gift given to their baby by a visitor.
The woman made the claim in a video that has since gone viral across social media platforms, where she narrated how a seemingly minor dispute over the cash gift escalated into a family conflict that has lasted for days.
According to her, a visitor had given the baby ₦2,000 during a visit. She explained that after informing her husband about the gift, he demanded that the money be handed over to him, a request she declined.
Disagreement Over Baby’s Gift
Speaking in the video, the nursing mother expressed frustration over the situation, claiming the disagreement had affected the family’s welfare.
“Someone came to visit us and give my baby 2,000. Then my husband came back and I told my husband he is requesting for the money. I should give him the money.
“Is it him that would take the money or me? Because this thing has been causing problems now for two days. He refused to give us money for food because of this thing.”
Her remarks quickly attracted widespread reactions, with many social media users sharing differing opinions on the matter.
Mixed Reactions Online
Commenting on the incident, Shield questioned whether the full story had been told.
“And your in-laws are on social media right? If married men start complaining how their wives sex starve then women will twist the narrative to emotional support their dubious intents. A woman who has no shame is a disgrace!”
Another user, Chidi, suggested there could be more to the dispute than what was revealed in the video.
“This one na family matter? I don’t support maltreatment especially when it involves women but let me ask what did you do?”
Ayumzi criticised the situation, describing the disagreement as unfortunate.
“Your husband and poverty na 5 and 6 fighting you because of 2000 naira, someone gave you and the baby… I hope you both find compromised resolution though.”
FISHIM, however, argued that financial hardship could be a factor behind the controversy.
“Your husband no refuse him no get money madam no man we refused to feed his family no matter the condition onless he is broke and struggling so dont blame you good husband over economy failure okay.”
Faith John used the incident to advise women to remain financially independent even after marriage.
“That is why as a lady, never you see marriage as an escape from facing or handling your own responsibilities. Have your own money before getting into a marriage.”
