I Was Born In N’Delta, I Maintain Multiple Ethnicities,Part Of Me Is Yoruba,I’m Igbo By Music—Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has described himself as a Nigerian with multiple ethnic connections, saying he was born in the Niger Delta and identifies with different cultures across the country.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, speaking during an interview with journalists while reacting to comments made by Sunday Igboho over the recent Oyo school abductions, Sowore said he sees himself as partly Yoruba, Hausa, and Ijaw, while adding that music connects him to the Igbo people and his fashion sense reflects Igala culture.

Sowore explained that he supports anyone willing to contribute to solving Nigeria’s problems, provided such individuals are not involved in criminal activities. However, he said he disagreed with a previous statement by Igboho suggesting that people who do not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not campaign in Yorubaland.

According to him, that comment was where Igboho crossed the line, although he later received a message from the activist explaining that he did not intend the statement in that manner.

Reflecting on his activism, Sowore recalled participating in student-led vigilante groups against cultism and security threats on campuses.

In his words, “I was born in the Niger Delta, and you guys know I maintain multiple ethnicities, part of me is Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw. I’m Igbo by music, I’m Igala by the kind of fashion.
