Insecurity and banditry are widely attributed to a severe failure of governance, weak accountability, and corruption across all tiers of government. The perception of government’s nonchalance is deeply rooted in the slow response, lack of proactive measures, and failure to deter criminals.
The Federal Government’s top down security strategy is frequently criticised as ineffective. However, experts also point to state governors and local government chair persons that they control significant security votes yet often fail to mobilise subnational resources or unite for regional protections. Ongoing attacks on rural communities or farmlands have brought so much fear in the land. Farmers are scared to go to farms because of kidnappers and bandits. Everyone is demanding accountability. The government should please strengthen their security and flush out this criminals causing mayhem to the society. All we need is swift rescue teams, technological development, and the establishment of state police to enable tight security, forcing the criminals to come out of their hiding place.
Security officials should be stationed deep down rural communities. Potholes should be fixed as well to enable the road motorable because bad roads cause slow movement and it enables the kidnappers to have access to kidnap, knowing well motorists cannot escape because of bad roads. The Federal Government should please introduce CCTV and drones. It will enable aerial view.
Security officials should also be stationed on every road. This would enable security stability. The Federal Government should introduce an active emergency response code to dial when attacked. The response team should arrive in five minutes. All these will strengthen our security network.
Kidnapping started even before l was born. And from all the stories I have heard, bad roads are the major problem because the kidnappers station themselves at bad spots, making the motorist not have easy access to escape. We have three major problems causing kidnapping.
Bad roads: kidnappers find it very easy to operate on bad roads because they feel motorists find it so hard to navigate through the bad roads and escape.
Lack of security networking: with a fast security team, kidnappers would find it hard to operate because of fear of being apprehended.
Security surveillance drones: Drones are highly needed to comb, detect and flush out these kidnappers from their hideouts.
Insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s greatest challenges. Addressing it requires commitment from all levels of government, improved infrastructure, modern security technology, effective policing, and rapid emergency response systems.
With these measures in place, Nigeria can significantly reduce kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of criminal activity while ensuring the safety of its citizens.
