An irate Disney customer ripped a worker’s name tag off his shirt and shattered drink glasses in a resort restaurant tirade, authorities have said.
Leslie Helen Varley, 57, was arrested after causing a scene at Steakhouse 71, a family-friendly restaurant at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort in Florida, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Independent.
Varley was with her family at the steakhouse on May 19 when she became upset that they could not all sit together at the same table because of the large size of the party, one of the restaurant’s managers told investigators.
After the restaurant denied Varley’s request that two tables be pushed together, she grabbed one of the manager’s shoulders and moved her, according to the affidavit.
Varley then allegedly threw three glasses of ice water at a second manager at the resort, who tried to help, and ripped the name tag off his suit jacket.
Authorities said Varley walked away from the restaurant with the manager’s name tag, prompting him to follow her to the front desk of the resort to retrieve it.
During the fight, Varley shattered four glasses after dropping them on the floor. The broken glasses cost about $20 in total.
Neither manager had any visible injuries, according to police.
Varley told investigators that she became upset because the male manager commented on her disabled daughter touching one of the cast members. It was then that she threw the glasses of water at the manager, according to her account.
The disgruntled guest said that she grabbed his name tag to take a picture of it. She explained that she took the name tag because she could not see his name and wanted to report him over the situation.
Varley admitted to removing the name tag from the manager without permission, but said she returned it right after.
She was given a trespass warning and told that if she returned to the property, she could be arrested again.
Varley has been charged with battery, robbery by sudden snatching and criminal mischief.
The Independent has reached out to Disney for comment.
