Embu man turns to selling boiled eggs after unemployment
Mutethia explained that after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, he started a small business selling boiled eggs and smokies to earn an income and support himself.
For him, it was a better option than staying at home and depending entirely on his parents.
Despite applying for numerous jobs, he has yet to secure employment, even though he has been shortlisted for interviews by various companies.
The 25-year-old also enrolled for a master’s degree at the University of Embu with the support of his parents as he continues searching for job opportunities.
Mutethia revealed that he has received a few job offers, but circumstances have prevented him from taking them up.

“Some kind people reached out to me online and offered me jobs, but I had to refer other people because most of the opportunities required me to relocate to Nairobi. When I considered the cost of relocating against the salary being offered, it did not make financial sense. I am still very grateful, though,” he said.
Nonetheless, the determined graduate has not given up on his dreams and remains hopeful about building a better future.
He admitted that he currently relies on his parents for financial support but believes his breakthrough will come.
“My parents have really supported me. I have tried looking for employment in several companies here in Embu, especially in digital marketing, but nothing has come through so far. That’s why I decided to share my story on TikTok,” he explained.
Mutethia appealed to anyone with a potential opportunity in digital marketing, media, or communications to consider giving him a chance to kick-start his career.
