Why Migori Boys students help protests in town
Some of the students who spoke to the media explained why they had chosen not to follow the worrying trend.
“I am not burning my school until the day I dress well. I cannot look like this and still burn my school or cause problems for my school,” said one of the students.
Another student noted that their goal as Migori Boys was to build a better future for themselves and their fellow learners rather than destroy it.
“We feel that burning schools is something that should not be part of who we are. We all know that there are many sponsored students in our schools. Have you ever thought about what they go through after you burn their belongings in dormitories or destroy property in classrooms?” he posed.
The students’ actions struck a chord with many Kenyans online, who praised them for promoting peace at a time when other schools have been grappling with unrest.
