The 21-year-old student, identified as Kevin Nyakwara, said his first suspension came in primary school after he went against school rules.
What is baffling about his story is that most of his mistakes appear petty and easily avoidable, yet he has repeatedly found himself in trouble.
Speaking to NGBREAKINGNEWS, Kevin noted that he attended a private boarding school during his primary education, where students were forbidden from carrying food from home.

“One of my friends had a sister who was a day scholar, and she brought him omena from home one Friday. I was the one who carried it. While washing our hands, the teacher found the omena in my pocket, and that’s how I ended up going home for one week while I was in Class Eight,” he said.
Despite his mischievous behaviour in school, Kevin passed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam and was admitted to Chavakali Boys High School.
However, the mischief did not stop there. While in Form Two, he reported to school with a phone and was almost suspended, but his mother intervened, and he was spared.
In 2021, while in Form Three, there was a strike in school. After a brief, indefinite break, students were asked to complete a questionnaire listing those who had spearheaded the strike.
“If more than 15 people mentioned your name, you would face disciplinary action, and that is how I got suspended for two weeks. When we returned to face the board members, they said we were lying and I was sent home again,” he explained.

Why was Kevin Nyakwara suspended from clinicals?
He explained that his mother felt that if he studied far from home, he might get spoilt and become immoral. He was therefore enrolled in a medical training college in Kisii, where he is currently pursuing nursing.
Trouble, however, followed him even in college, where he was suspended in his first year.
“My friend had money, so we went to the supermarket and bought some alcohol. There were people taking photos, and we also took some. My mistake was posting pictures of myself holding alcohol on the college’s official Instagram account. I don’t even know how I got the login details,” he said.
The misconduct, wearing college uniform and posting alcohol-related images on the official college Instagram page, earned him suspension and a fine.
In 2025, while on clinical training, Kevin once again found himself in trouble with his student mentor at a hospital in Migori County.

They were called for a meeting by the mentor, but he failed to attend and was later summoned.
He also had long hair, and the student mentor insisted that he shave it, something he refused to do.
“He was angry because we did not attend his meeting, and when he asked me to shave, we just stood there with the rest and refused to leave. That is how he drafted my suspension letter from the hospital, saying we were shaggy and unkempt,” he shared.
Kevin once again faced the disciplinary committee at school and was fined before shaving his hair and being allowed to complete his clinicals.
What does Kevin’s mum say about his suspensions?
The now third-year nursing student said his mother constantly advises him to work hard and avoid offending school authorities.
He shared that he does not find trouble; rather, trouble finds him.
“I feel like they just don’t understand me. I am hardworking and still plan to pursue a degree in nursing after this,” he said.
