Fawaz Abdulkareem, 36, known as Larry Hoover, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the UK for murdering his friend, 32-year-old Daniel Manuel, during a dispute over money. He must serve a minimum of 17 years.
The Metropolitan Police said the incident happened on 5 July 2025 at Abdulkareem’s Bondway flat in Vauxhall, South London. He and Manuel had spent the night at a nightclub before returning with friends in the early hours.

An argument over a debt escalated, and Abdulkareem stabbed Manuel three times with a kitchen knife. He later left the flat, concealing the weapon in his waistband and using his T-shirt to hide it while reporting the incident to staff in the communal lobby. When he realised emergency services were coming, he tried to dispose of the kn+fe by throwing it from his 14th-floor window.
Police arrived within minutes and arrested him at the scene after noticing bl%od on his clothing. Although he claimed self-defence, investigators said the injuries suggested Manuel was likely stabbed while his back was turned. A jury at Croydon Crown Court unanimously convicted him of murder and possession of a bladed article on 21 May.
According to Manuel’s wife, his vi%lent d+ath shattered her life emotionally, physically, and financially.
Detective Inspector Luke Hampton added that Abdulkareem tried to mislead investigators and dispose of the weapon, but detectives exposed his lies and secured justice for the family.
Back in 2017, Fawaz was jailed for three years over a $1m dollar aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, as well as aiding and abetting in the USA and ordered to pay $930,737.60 in restitution to three financial companies.
