Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has visited the Ahoro-Esiele Yawota Community in Orire Local Government Area to sympathize with families affected by the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in the area.
During the emotional visit, Governor Makinde was seen consoling Professor Wole Alamu, whose wife, a school principal, was among those kidnapped by suspected gunmen alongside several teachers and schoolchildren.
The governor’s visit came amid growing concern over the safety of the abducted victims following the attack, which reportedly occurred when armed men invaded schools within the community and forcefully took away pupils and members of staff.
Addressing residents and grieving families, Governor Makinde assured them that his administration was working closely with security agencies to secure the safe return of all abducted victims. He stressed that the state government had intensified efforts to rescue those still in captivity.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure that our people return safely. Security agencies are fully involved, and we remain committed to protecting lives and property across Oyo State,” the governor reportedly said during the visit.
The atmosphere in the community was filled with grief as relatives of the abducted victims appealed to the government not to relent in rescue operations. Professor Wole Alamu, while speaking emotionally, described the incident as heartbreaking and painful for the affected families.
Residents also called for stronger security presence in rural communities to prevent future attacks on schools and innocent citizens.
The abduction has sparked outrage across Oyo State, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the increasing cases of insecurity targeting schools and rural communities.
Governor Makinde further urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives, assuring them that the government would continue to monitor the situation until all victims are safely reunited with their families.
