Several travelers were reportedly forced to abandon movement along a major highway in northern Nigeria after suspected armed bandits allegedly took over a section of the road, compelling motorists to park their vehicles and wait until the attackers completed their operation before continuing their journeys.
According to Trending Video circulating on social media have shown long queues of vehicles parked along the roadside as passengers and drivers remained inside their vehicles or sought temporary shelter over fears of possible attacks.
According to witness, the travelers decided to suspend movement after receiving information that heavily armed criminals were operating ahead on the highway. Rather than risk encountering the gunmen, many drivers reportedly turned off their engines and waited for several hours until the area was considered safe.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing security concerns affecting several highways in northern Nigeria, where cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and bandit attacks have continued to threaten the movement of people and goods.
Some travelers who witnessed the situation described the experience as frightening, saying they had no option but to remain stationary until other road users confirmed that the attackers had left the area.
A passenger who spoke anonymously said the decision to stop was taken to protect lives, noting that many families, women, and children were among those stranded on the highway.
Security analysts have repeatedly warned that persistent attacks on major roads could negatively affect economic activities, transportation, and public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
Although authorities are yet to release a detailed official statement regarding the incident, residents and commuters have continued to call for increased security patrols along vulnerable highways to prevent further attacks and reassure travelers.
