The lady, identified as Sherry, shared her unpleasant experience in a TikTok video and explained why she chose to return home despite not having a backup plan.
She narrated that she received the job advertisement from one of her aunts and decided to give it a try.
Fortunately, she was shortlisted for an interview, which was initially meant to be conducted in person. However, due to disruptions caused by protests and a matatu strike, it was eventually held via Zoom.

“The interview was great. I was told about the salary and the job description, which involved working as a secretary, ushering clients in and handling enquiries, as stated in the job advertisement and during our conversation in the interview,” she explained.
According to Sherry, the salary offered was modest, but she had no issue with it because she urgently needed employment.
She was offered the job and later signed a contract after both parties agreed on a reporting date.
Ready to begin work on the agreed day, she called a woman who was supposed to direct her to the workplace, which was said to be located at a mall in Kiambu County.
“The lady I called for directions was very rude. She told me she had quit that job and advised me to ask the director for directions instead. I hung up and called the director, who helped me get to the ‘office’,” she shared.

Why did Sherry quit her new job?
Upon arrival, Sherry was shocked to find an incomplete building. She was welcomed by a foreman supervising construction workers at the site.
To her surprise, she was directed to a small shack and asked to sit on a wooden bench. It was then that she realised the job advertisement and the contract contained different information.
The job descriptions did not match, and she claimed that the employer wanted her to walk around looking for clients as a sales and marketing agent using her own resources and airtime.
“With the little salary he was offering for that amount of work, I decided to quit immediately and go back home. I may be desperate, but not that desperate,” she said.
