The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide offensive against drug trafficking networks, intercepting over 320,000 capsules of tramadol concealed in building materials and arresting multiple suspects, including a 75-year-old man and several female dealers across several states.
In a major breakthrough in Taraba State, operatives on Saturday, June 6, acting on intelligence, intercepted a truck conveying building materials from Onitsha to Jalingo. A search of the vehicle at Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo led to the discovery of a large consignment of illicit drugs concealed beneath the cargo.
The driver’s assistant, 22-year-old Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested in connection with the seizure. Recovered items include 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 tablets of Rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
In a separate operation in Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 75-year-old suspect, Okebe Samuel, in Okposi. He was allegedly found with 300 grams of skunk already packaged in retail sachets for distribution within the community.
Similarly, in Imo State, operatives raided a drug hotspot in Umulolo, Orlu, where 32-year-old Chioma Okeke was arrested with eight kilograms of skunk.
In Edo State, coordinated raids on June 2 in Benin City led to the arrest of four suspects, including three women. At Uyosa, operatives apprehended Chioma Igba, 24, and Precious Ozomah, 22, with quantities of skunk, Loud, and methamphetamine. Another suspect, Anita Abraham, 21, was arrested along Agbor Road with assorted Loud variants, while Henry Okey, 43, was picked up at Upper Mission with drugs including Colorado and methamphetamine.
In Kano State, NDLEA officers arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan in Madobi with 40 blocks of skunk weighing about 38 kilograms.
In Gombe State, operatives intercepted 28-year-old Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi near Dantiti Plaza in Tumfure with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.
The agency said the operations form part of its sustained War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, which also reached schools in Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, and Kano states through sensitisation programmes targeting youths and communities.
Reacting to the operations, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended operatives across the Taraba, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano, and Gombe commands for their vigilance and operational success.
Marwa reiterated that the agency would continue to pursue drug cartels and traffickers regardless of age, gender, or concealment tactics, stressing that the fight against narcotics remains central to national security and public health.
