The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State has appealed to the state government to provide a permanent orientation camp, iron bunk beds and monthly stipends for corps members.
State Coordinator, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, made the appeal on Monday in Kaduna at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course.
The ceremony was held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kaduna.
Dadaza commended the Kaduna State Government for its continued support towards corps members’ welfare.
She said the scheme still requires critical support, including a permanent orientation camp, an ambulance, feeding during orientation and metal bunk beds with mattresses.
The coordinator also appealed for monthly stipends for corps members throughout their service year.
According to her, such interventions will motivate corps members to serve diligently and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Dadaza said prospective corps members began reporting to camp on June 10 and had shown discipline, resilience and adaptability, noting that they had adjusted quickly to the regimented camp environment.
She assured the government that corps members would uphold the ideals of the scheme and maintain high standards of discipline.
The coordinator urged them to regard national service as a privilege and an opportunity for self-development and character building.
She also encouraged them to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills and become self-reliant.
Declaring the orientation course open, Gov. Uba Sani congratulated the corps members on completing their academic programmes.
Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, described NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most successful nation-building initiatives.
He said the scheme had, for over five decades, promoted national unity, cultural integration and community development.
The governor urged the corps members to participate fully in military drills, leadership training, civic education and entrepreneurship programmes, while charging them to uphold discipline, integrity and respect for diversity.
Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, safety and well-being of corps members posted to Kaduna State, and assured them of a conducive environment for service.
