Ogun First Lady Distributes 3,500 Eco-Friendly Stoves to Boost Clean Energy Drive

Abeokuta, Ogun State — The Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has distributed 3,500 eco-friendly cooking stoves to residents across the state as part of efforts to promote clean energy adoption, improve public health, and combat environmental pollution.

The distribution took place during activities commemorating the 2026 World Environment Day celebration, with beneficiaries drawn from various communities across Ogun State.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Abiodun emphasized the importance of embracing sustainable energy solutions to address the growing challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation. She noted that traditional cooking methods that rely heavily on firewood and charcoal contribute significantly to deforestation, indoor air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.

According to her, the clean cooking stoves will help households reduce their dependence on harmful cooking fuels while providing a safer, healthier, and more efficient cooking experience.

Mrs. Abiodun also highlighted the impact of environmental pollution on vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, who are often exposed to smoke generated by conventional cooking methods. She urged residents to support initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and promoting sustainable living.

The stove distribution programme was implemented through a collaboration between the Ogun State Government and the Federal Ministry of Environment as part of ongoing efforts to encourage the transition to cleaner energy sources nationwide.

Also speaking at the event, the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability through various initiatives, including climate action programmes, waste management reforms, tree-planting campaigns, and renewable energy projects.
