The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of three persons— a woman, her son, and a man identified by residents as popularly called “Shanko”— in the Egbe Subair area of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
The incident, which threw the community into confusion on Wednesday, reportedly occurred earlier in the day before the victims were discovered in separate parts of the building.
Residents told local sources that the lifeless bodies of the woman and the male victim were found inside a toilet within the apartment, while the corpse of the woman’s son was discovered in one of the rooms in the same house.
Although the exact cause of death remains unknown, some residents who visited the scene alleged that there were signs of struggle within the premises. They claimed that parts of the toilet and some household items appeared damaged, raising suspicions that a violent encounter may have preceded the deaths.
The bodies have since been evacuated and deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy as part of efforts to determine the cause of death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said preliminary investigation had commenced.
He added that the command was working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths and assured that further updates would be provided as findings emerge.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had not confirmed any cause of death, while tension remained high in the community over the tragic discovery.
