A woman has sparked reactions online after recounting an incident involving two friends whose relationship survived an alleged betrayal over betting winnings worth ₦200,000.
According to the woman, the incident happened in her neighbourhood many years ago when a young man won ₦200,000 from a sports betting platform.
The final match on his ticket was played at night, preventing him from visiting the betting office immediately to claim the money.
Excited by his win, the man reportedly showed the winning ticket to a friend, unaware that the decision would later lead to controversy.
Ticket stolen overnight
The woman explained that the friend stole the winning ticket that same night and went to the betting office early the following morning to claim the prize before the rightful owner could do so.
After collecting the money, the suspect reportedly left the neighbourhood, triggering panic and anger among residents who began searching for him.
When he was eventually found, the woman claimed that only ₦4,000 remained from the original ₦200,000.
Sharing her amazement over the events, she said:
“What he didn’t know was that the friend stole the ticket that same night and rushed to the betting office the next morning to cash out the money before anyone noticed.”
Unexpected reconciliation surprises residents
Despite the fallout and the tension that followed the incident, the woman said the story took an unexpected turn months later.
According to her account, the two men eventually reconciled and resumed their friendship, behaving as though nothing had happened.
She added that she found the development difficult to understand, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the financial loss involved.
