“That really hurt me” — Lady recounts being accused after trying to help roommate with body odour

A lady has shared her experience of living with a roommate whose persistent body odour created tension and discomfort in their shared accommodation, eventually leading her to request a room change.

The woman recounted the incident while reflecting on some of the most difficult roommate situations she had encountered.

According to her, the odour was so strong that it affected the atmosphere in the room and even lingered on personal belongings.

Private conversation leads to misunderstanding

She explained that the situation became increasingly challenging over time, forcing her to spend long periods away from the room.

Rather than remain in the shared space, she often slept or socialised in other rooms to avoid the discomfort.

The lady said many people discussed the issue among themselves, but no one was willing to address it directly with the roommate involved. Wanting to handle the matter respectfully, she decided to speak with the roommate in private.

During their conversation, the roommate revealed that she had been dealing with the condition since childhood.

The woman said she also suggested a possible remedy and provided something she believed could help.

One of my worst roommate experiences was with a girl who had a very strong body odor. It was so bad that even my clothes would absorb the smell”

Decision to move out

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when she later learned that the roommate had allegedly told others that she had been embarrassed and insulted during the discussion.

The development left the woman feeling hurt, as she maintained that her intention had been to offer support rather than cause embarrassment.

Feeling uncomfortable after the misunderstanding, she eventually requested to be moved to another room.

Her account has since sparked conversations online about sensitive personal issues, communication between roommates, and the challenges of addressing hygiene concerns without causing offence.
