Osun APC Council Chairmen Donate 60 Patrol Vehicles to Security Agencies

OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), comprising local government chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has donated 60 patrol vehicles to various security agencies operating across the state in a move aimed at enhancing public safety and combating criminal activities.

The patrol vehicles were officially presented on Saturday at the headquarters of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo during a ceremony attended by security chiefs, government officials, and local government representatives.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Osun ALGON, Mr. Samuel Idowu, said the donation underscored the commitment of local government administrations to supporting security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property.

According to him, the intervention is part of a broader strategy to improve security across the state and create a safer environment for residents and businesses. He noted that the local government chairmen had previously donated 30 patrol vehicles, bringing the total number of vehicles provided to security agencies by the association to 90.

Idowu attributed the success of the initiative to the financial and administrative autonomy currently enjoyed by local governments, which has enabled councils to undertake developmental projects and security interventions that directly impact local communities.

Security remains a critical pillar of development. No meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and instability. This donation reflects our determination to support security agencies in maintaining peace and order across Osun State,  he said.

The vehicles are expected to be distributed among several security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant institutions responsible for maintaining law and order.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the beneficiary agencies, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, commended the local government chairmen for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention.

He noted that the additional patrol vehicles would significantly improve operational efficiency, facilitate rapid response to security threats, and strengthen intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.

Gotan assured residents that the vehicles would be effectively deployed to enhance security coverage across the state and help security personnel respond more swiftly to emergencies.
