Plot To Bomb Ondo Govt House Foiled, Suspects Arrested — Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that security operatives foiled an alleged plot by some youths to bomb the Ondo State Government House following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

Aiyedatiwa said the suspects were arrested after weeks of surveillance, adding that materials suspected to be linked to the planned attack were recovered during the raid.

The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he described the incident as one of several security successes recorded in the state through proactive intelligence gathering.

According to him, security agencies had received credible intelligence about three to four months ago indicating that some individuals were plotting an attack on the seat of government.

He explained that the suspects initially lodged in a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment, where they allegedly continued preparations for the operation.

“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He added that the swift intervention of operatives averted what could have resulted in a major security breach, stressing that the state government had continued to strengthen its surveillance architecture.

The governor noted that the operation involved personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Amotekun Corps, who acted on coordinated intelligence to track and apprehend the suspects.

Aiyedatiwa further said investigations were ongoing to establish the motive behind the alleged plot and to uncover possible collaborators.

He maintained that many security successes often go unnoticed because attacks are prevented before they occur.

“So much work is being done. Security is one responsibility that leaders carry that is not so visible to everybody. It is only when there is a lapse that it will look as if the government has not been doing enough,” he said.

The governor also said South-West governors have continued to deepen collaboration on regional security, particularly through intelligence sharing and joint operations with security outfits such as Amotekun.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, pledging sustained investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance, and inter-agency cooperation.

The revelation came shortly after Aiyedatiwa welcomed the conviction of four persons linked to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, describing the ruling as a victory for justice and the rule of law.
