Polaris Bank reacts to fire incident at Lagos branch, says no casualties

A fire outbreak occurred on Thursday at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street in Lagos.

Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building, as residents and business owners gathered near the scene.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, were promptly deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of the time of filing this report.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Polaris Bank confirmed that the fire affected the car park of its Broad Street branch and was swiftly brought under control.

The bank stated that there were no casualties or fatalities, noting that emergency responders acted quickly to manage the situation.

“Following the fire incident at the car park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was swiftly contained and, thankfully, there were no casualties or fatalities,” the statement read.

“We appreciate the prompt response of emergency services.”

The bank also dismissed reports claiming that 34 people were killed in the incident, describing them as false and misleading.

Polaris Bank urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media and to rely on credible news platforms and its official communication channels for accurate information.

“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platforms and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” the statement added.
