Police, Joint Forces Eliminate 6 Bandits, Repel Attack In Zamfara Community

A joint security team has eliminated at least six suspected bandits and repelled an attack on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, quoting security sources, disclosed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026 at about 11:00 a.m. when a large group of armed bandits invaded the communities.

The attackers were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), general-purpose machine guns (GPMGs), anti-aircraft guns and AK-47 rifles.

According to the sources, a distress call prompted the immediate deployment of a combined security team comprising police tactical operatives from Maru Division, troops of Operation Fansar Yamma, personnel of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and local vigilantes.

The team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle and successfully prevented the attack.

The sources said six bandits riding on two motorcycles were neutralised during the operation, while several others escaped into nearby forests with suspected gunshot wounds.

“No casualty was recorded among security personnel or members of the affected communities,” the sources said.

They added that security had since been reinforced in the area, with sustained patrols being conducted to prevent further attacks, reassure residents and track down the fleeing suspects.

The sources reiterated the commitment of security agencies to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information.
