Iniedu Okokon, a chief superintendent of police (CSP), has been named the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) by the Nigeria Police Force, which has announced a shift in its public relations leadership.
A few days after Olatunji Disu became the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP), Anthony Placid, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP), was appointed to the position three months prior. The new spokesperson takes his place.
When contacted, Mr. Placid sent our reporter a brief text confirming his replacement. However, the police have not formally disclosed the details of the most recent reorganization.
Mr. Placid has been reassigned to lead the Lagos Command’s Finance and Administration unit, according to sources in the police headquarters who spoke to the reporters.
After Khan Salihu, a DCP, passed away following a brief illness, the position fell vacant.
As the new police spokesperson, Mr. Okokon is anticipated to take up public relations duties right away. Aliyu Giwa, a CSP, will continue to oversee the recently established Force New Media unit.
According to a senior police officer who talked to this newspaper, the new police spokesperson was previously in charge of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
The police authorities are anticipated to provide further formal clarification.
