The Yobe State Police Command has dismantled an illegal weapons manufacturing operation in Potiskum and taken seven suspects into custody, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the development in an official statement, revealing that the illegal facility was uncovered on June 2, 2026, following a raid by operatives of the Potiskum Area Command.

He explained that actionable intelligence had tipped off authorities that a group of blacksmiths were secretly manufacturing dane guns and other firearms at a location along Danchuwa Road in the Tasha Adua area of Potiskum.

Items confiscated during the operation included two fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable dane guns, a filing machine, and a sharp cutlass.

The seven arrested suspects are currently being interrogated to uncover any collaborators, potential buyers, and the intended purpose of the weapons being produced.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed the officers handling the case to deepen their investigations, track down other illegal arms manufacturing sites in the area, and evaluate the broader security threat such operations pose to the public.

The Command also cautioned residents against allowing their properties to be used for criminal activities, particularly the production of dangerous weapons, and called on members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security agency.
