Two people have been confirmed dead following a rainstorm that struck Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village, Kirfi.
Their deaths were confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil Habib.

According to the statement, preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. when the community experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, resulting in the loss of lives and the destruction of several houses, livestock and other valuables worth millions of naira.
“Police operatives attached to the Kirfi Division have visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage and maintain order in the affected community,” the statement said.
The statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the people of Kirfi Local Government Area.
He assured residents that the command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies to security agencies for swift response.
