Florentino Pérez has celebrated the return of José Mourinho to Real Madrid after securing another term as president of the Spanish giants until 2030.
The veteran football administrator used his election victory speech to outline his vision for the club’s future, stressing its independence, member-owned structure and continued pursuit of major trophies.
According to a release published on the club’s website on Sunday, Pérez won re-election with 21,741 votes, representing 65 per cent of ballots cast.
His challenger, Enrique Riquelme, received 11,814 votes, accounting for 35 per cent.
The victory extends Pérez’s long association with the club, having served as president from July 2000 to February 2006 before returning in June 2009.
Addressing supporters after the result, Pérez said: “We have won the elections and will continue working to keep winning titles. “We have won at all the polling stations and achieved the second-best result in the history of Real Madrid elections.
The first was also achieved by us in 2004. It is an extraordinary result.” He also revealed that nearly 1,000 postal votes were excluded from the final count and indicated that the club would challenge the decision.
Pérez said: “And I must tell you that it could have been better because nearly a thousand mail-in votes were annulled, votes certified by a notary, due to procedural issues that we will appeal, as we believe we are in the right.”
The Real Madrid president described the election as a victory for the club’s democratic traditions and institutional model.
He said: “Real Madrid has won. “We have set an example to the world of democracy, transparency, and coexistence.
We have shown that we are a big family, that we love Real Madrid, and that we are prepared for the future.” Pérez also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the club’s ownership structure.
e said: “With me as president, Real Madrid has been, is, and will always remain owned by its members.”
The statement comes at a time when many of Europe’s biggest clubs are controlled by private investors and ownership groups. Looking ahead, Pérez insisted the club would continue facing new challenges while remaining faithful to its traditions. He said: “This is the Real Madrid we all want.
An independent Real Madrid. A Real Madrid unafraid of challenges and obstacles.” Among the key themes of his address was the return of Mourinho, whom Pérez described as one of the world’s leading coaches.
He said: “We will continue to take pride in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, the best stadium in the world. “Proud to have the best players in the world, proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a madridista like José Mourinho.” Pérez also reiterated the club’s determination to add another European title to its collection.
He said: “We will continue working so that Real Madrid keeps winning titles, and we will fight until the end to achieve the sixteenth European Cup.”
Seeking unity after the election, the president extended a message to members who supported his opponent.
Pérez said: “We must stay united, driven by our passion for Real Madrid. “To those who did not vote for me, I will do everything possible to address your concerns.”
