Reactions Trail What Peter Obi Said After Court Sent Nigerian Activist, Omoyele Sowore To Prison

Social media users have taken to their official X account on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 to react to the statement that was made by the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi after Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore was sent to prison.

This came after the Federal High Court in Abuja remanded the human rights activist in Kuje prison.

In the post that Peter Obi shared on his official X account, he said a thriving democracy does not survive on the silencing of opposing voices.

The former governor of Anambra state urged the authorities to ensure that the rights of Omoyele Sowore are not violated.

According to Peter Obi on his official X account;

“Moreover, our society is already strained by insecurity and biting economic hardship. Therefore, deliberate steps should be taken, even by the courts, to avoid inflaming the situation”.
