Residents Raise Alarm as Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Move Across Communities in Niger State

Residents of Borgu and Mashegu Local Government Areas of Niger State have raised fresh security concerns following reports that suspected Lakurawa terrorists were seen moving in broad daylight across several rural communities on Saturday, June 21, 2026.

According to local sources, members of the group were reportedly sighted along the Zugurma–Kainji axis in Borgu LGA before allegedly moving through several communities within Mashegu LGA.

Residents claimed the suspected terrorists were seen in communities including Zugurma, Kulho, Soba, and Adogon Malam within a short period, sparking fears among villagers over their growing presence and freedom of movement in the area.

Community members alleged that the group often moves from one rural settlement to another under the guise of religious preaching or outreach activities, a tactic they say enables them to gain access to vulnerable communities and establish contacts with locals.

The reported sightings have heightened anxiety among residents, who are calling on security agencies to intensify surveillance and take proactive measures to prevent possible attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the reported movements of the suspected Lakurawa members.
