The Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, has claimed he played a significant behind-the-scenes role in the emergence of former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, and also helped lay early grassroots foundations for the presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Ojo said his political involvement predates Tinubu’s presidential campaign, insisting he was active at a time when the ambition was not widely considered viable.
“I was instrumental to Governor Fayemi’s becoming a governor in Ekiti. When I came to Nigeria, at no point did I choose any juicy position. I worked for everything,” he said.
Ojo further stated that he initiated the grassroots mobilisation structure known as SWAGA, which he described as a nationwide political movement supporting Tinubu’s emergence.
“When nobody saw the light of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu becoming a president, I started SWAGA, and I went around to convey people. Senator Adeyeye, who was the chairman of the Board of Trustees, is the chairman. I’m the convener,” he added.
He claimed the mobilisation drive took him across all 776 local government areas in Nigeria, including extensive road travels during the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of heightened insecurity in parts of the country.
Ojo said these early efforts were later referenced during Tinubu’s campaign as examples of grassroots loyalty and sustained political groundwork that contributed to his eventual victory.
