Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has reacted to speculations of having romantic interest in Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye.
The singer gave the reaction after she was asked whether she knew the Nigerian international and if she would consider making the first move.
Tems made it clear that she can’t date or approach Nigerian male celebrities for a romantic relationship.
The ‘Me n U’ crooner noted that she sees most Nigerian celebrities as brothers and family, stating that she has no intentions of ‘shooting her shot’ at the goalkeeper.
The singer made the remarks during an interview on the sidelines of the BET Awards.
Asked if she knew Okoye, Tems admitted she knows who the Super Eagle goalie is due to his trending status but does not know him personally, jokingly adding, “I wish I did though.
However, when asked whether she would “shoot her shot” at the goalkeeper, the singer firmly dismissed the idea. “Shoot? No, no, no, we don’t shoot shots here. We’re friends. We ‘friend’ each other and we’re family. No shots,” she replied.
The hosts doubled down on the joke, saying, “Just family. Just sisters and brothers,” before adding, “If you shoot, you miss. No shots over here.” Tems laughed it off with a direct and graceful dismissal.
Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users praising her stance, while others argued there is nothing wrong with women making the first move in a relationship.
